Chabad-Lubavitch isa philosophy, a movement and an organization. Founded in 1772, it is considered the most dynamic force in Jewish life today.

The movement is guided by the teachings of its seven leaders (“Rebbes”), beginning with Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi of righteous memory (1745–1812), who concerned themselves with the totality of Jewish life, spiritual and physical, for all Jewish people.

In our generation, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson ofrighteous memory (1902–1994), known simply as “the Rebbe,” guided post-HolocaustJewry to new life.

Motivated by his profound love for every Jew and spurred by his boundless optimism andself-sacrifice, the Rebbe set into motion a global movement of programs,services and institutions to serve every Jew.

“Shluchim” are the Rebbe’s lifelong emissary families around the world. They are renowned for engaging Jewish people with love, and without precondition of knowledge, commitment or belief.

Today, over 6,000 full-time emissary families (2,500 in the UnitedStates) lead more than 3,500 institutions dedicated to the welfare of theJewish people worldwide.

By design, every Chabad chapter operates independently and is funded throughdirect contributions from local individuals, foundations and corporations.

The Rebbe encouraged Shluchim and donors to work as partners, often telling one to not be satisfied with the other’s actions to date and to inspire each other togreater heights.
